Message Source and Reply Options

By default all messages sent via Messenger will use a pool of numbers designed to allow message threading so that if one of your recipients replies with "yes!" you can tell if they:-

  • Are available for the meeting your have texted about
  • Are interested in the latest Product Release or
  • Are going to need to change the Staff Roster.

See how things could get confusing if we didn't use a pool of numbers?

The threading pool also allows you to setup forwarding options for when any replies come in. You can do this in your profile page before you send any messages but you may need to contact your Company Administrator to enable this feature for you. Forwarded messages will be deducted from your message balance as you use them.

Most regions have the option of not using this pool, the main exceptions being the US and New Zealand. We don't provide the ability to set the source as your number in these regions as our experience shows it severely reduces the delivery success of your messages.

For details on how to set your defaults see the Preferences Section

Virtual Numbers for SMS

Users in the US can contact Support to request a virtual number for SMS. This is a dedicated number, unique to you, that people can SMS into from almost anywhere in the world. Any messages you send will also come from this number, just as if you sent it from your mobile, so your recipient can store the number and knows it's you. The Conversation threading is limited with this option selected.

Alpha IDs

Contact Bulletin Support if you are considering setting up an Alpha ID. It will need to be less than 11 characters. Sending using your number or an Alpha ID may cost a little extra, in most cases the cost will be about USD $0.01 over and above the normal message cost to the country you are sending too.
